Hello,
My name is Gabrielle A. Ward. I am currently a Freshman, International Business major from Los Angeles, California at Howard University.
I am writing to you due to a lack of financial resources available to Howard University students.
As I have begun to make life-long bonds and friendships with people at HU, due to administration not providing enough scholarships and grants, many of the people I have become close with are now transferring to either schools in the surrounding area or schools that are closer to their home.
As I have spoken with many students, I have realized that the issue of a lack of financial resources is not only affecting the students, but the legacy of Howard University and the survival of HBCUs.
To combat this problem, I have developed the Invest In Me Project. The Invest In Me Project is a way for HBCU alumni as well as major corporations and companies to sponsor students that attend HBCUs.
With the Invest In Me Project, you may choose to either donate a small amount of money that will be allocated to a student in need or you may choose to sponsor a students education here at Howard University (either one semester, one year, or the rest of their academic career.)
My current goal is to raise 3 million dollars for the class of 2008 within one year.
1st Million:
13 $75000.00 Invest In Me Scholarships (3 Full Academic Years)*
1 $25,000.00 Invest In Me Scholarships (1 Full Academic Year + )
1 $5,000.00 Invest In Me Scholarships (Housing and Meals for One Year)
2nd Million:
20 $50,000.00 Invest In Me Scholarships (2 Full Academic Years)
3rd Million:
100 $10,000.00 Invest In Me Scholarships (1 Full Academic Semester)
*1 Full Academic Year includes: Tuition, Meals, Housing, Books, and Fees
I will not stop until I have reached my first goal of 3 million dollars.
My end goal with the beginning of the Invest In Me Project is for every student in the Class of 2008 to have one full academic year at Howard University paid for.
Upon the pending success of the Invest In Me Project at Howard University, I plan to develop Invest In Me Project chapters at:
1. Spelman College
2. Morehouse College
3. Xavier University
The more successful these chapters, the more chapters will be implemented on more HBCU campuses, but first the Howard chapter must succeed.
I ask that you decide to invest in Howard Universitys students education by investing whatever dollars you may have to give.
If you have any interests, concerns, or questions I ask that you please contact me with the provided e-mail address below.
Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read this email.
Sincerely,
Gabrielle A. Ward
