There are so many talented African-American athletes yet so few of them choose to display their talents and athleticism at our HBCUs. Unfortunately, it seems that HBCUs are unable to compete with the larger majority institutions when it comes to recruiting the best and most athletically talented students. This phenomenon is also apparent amongst the recruitment of the best and brightest academically inclined students, but it is not as prominent. If these students were to choose HBCUs as their preferred institutions, it would shine an even more positive light, not to mention the increase in revenue, programmatic funding and constructive exposure the schools would receive.
What is it that we as students, as well as those who are alumni of HBCUs do to resolve this issue and encourage more of our athletes and intellectuals to attend our institutions of higher learning?
