Quite often, when discussing whether to go to an hbcu or random hwcu, people want to dwell on the culture, the social life, etc. Doing this only makes the black college look inferior because it downplays the academic prowess of the professors and administration. I live in california now. I have since 1998 upon finishing Morehouse. I never heard of UC Davis until I got here. What I can tell you about Howard medical school is that it is no joke. NEVER...I repeat...NEVER trust the US NEWS rankings about anything HBCU related. It will always rank a black school lower than a comparable white school. Throw that analysis out of the window.

Damn the social aspect. You won't see a lot of social life in med school otherwise. Damn the cultural aspect. Regardless of where you are, if you have a problem finding your black roots, that's on you. What you SHOULD be looking at is the schools themselves (in other words, visit howard), the faculty of both schools (visit howard), and the prominent alumni of both schools (visit DC in general).

Dc can be a fun city. I'm very familiar with it, most of my family seems to live there. I am originally from N. California (SF). I don't see how/why that would matter in determining where to go to better oneself as a medical doctor.
